Kyongdong Church is an example of architect Kim Swoo-geun's later pieces. Although the church is situated in central Seoul and stands next to a large avenue, visitors can only access the building by walking around its outer walls before reaching the entrance to the chapel. The path was designed to symbolize Jesus's last moments while he traveled to Golgotha.
In terms of construction history, it is preceded by Yangdeok Cathedral (1978) in Masan and followed by Bulgwang-dong Catholic Church in Seoul.
